Rooting around

Managed to find the storyboard and brainstorm i started with, they are digital rather than hand done and traced in so they do lack a certain something.

Always leaving it till last minute.

Yeah, the title says it all from a 5 second animation this thing has turned into like a 20 second short -.-, everything i was doing was new to me as i haven't animated animals before, let alone making them sit down from the walking posistion.

It looks ok, i'm not 100% happy with it but what can you do, i've learnt a little from the experience so next i'll know what and what not to do.

Problems :
  • The snow would reset when the panda was clicked (As it's a new scene it registers as a new starting point).
  • Because i made my panda a complete movie clip with the animations inside, timing the outs and ins were near impossible, so althought it's not a SMOOTH loop it still can be considered a loop.
  • Movement was hard for me as i've never done anything like this before, i found myself on all fours acting out the actions (That's how i got the sit motion) which was an..experience.

All in all i'm reasonably happy with the outcome, if i could do it again it would strictly be alot of smoothing out as although it's not horrible to watch, if it was smoother it would be alot easier to absorb.

Finished walk cycle

Yeah this is as good as it's going to get without me dying, it turned more into a walk cycle as i couldn't figure out how to pad it and to actually make a walk would mean a complete re-hash.

Basic moodboard

This was what i did when i decided to use a panda as my walkcycle, it's very basic as i kind of knew what i wanted from the off, there wasn't much confusion when we were asked.

Butterfly/nose done before? Subconcious maybe..Who knows.

So yeah, my idea was to have the panda walking > sitting down > Butterfly flies in > Lands on his nose > He shakes it off > continues with the walk.

I was told that it had been done before? I though of any "bears" i could think of in cartoons and luckily i found the picture of this happening, i wasn't that shocked really as nowadays any idea isn't really new, but for it to be in something i used to worship as a child it's a shock it's still in my head.

Really should learn to update daily.

Yeah, i let the blog die a little even though i have a flood of stuff to upload.....so here it goes :D

RESEARCH

I used 2 "student" (Ithink) made walk cycles to try and get the wobble right, the 2nd one (below) had the head shake that i added.

........

File just corrupt, for no reason at all. Now i have to start all over again as i didn't back it up....fun times.
I find normal walk cycles hard to do so why i decided to do a 4 legged animals is besides me, but i'm giving it my best, the delay between the front and back legs is WELL off, and is throwing the whole thing out of wack, the body motion is also to quick for the leg movement.

EDIT : I've also added a head turn to the panda to give a sense of "balance" not sure if i fully achieved what i wanted to.

(I'm working in movie clips rather than on the actual timeline, and seeing as .mov or .avi aren't able to read movie clips the time is showing as 0:00, so i'll be throwing in links with images)

MORE TESTING WILL BE DONE.

Walk testing.

This hate hates flash

And seeing as i can't upload a scripted .swf as a .mov i'll have to throw up a redirect link.

Done in the 1st week , using the basic walk cycle given in class, i modified it a little and this is what came of it.

Backlog incoming.

Bouncing ball done in the (2nd week?) of class. I've used flash and previous along with tweening so i'm pretty happy with the way it came out.

Mixing.

For a different project we were given 3 words and told to do a storyboard and a partial animatic. My group had been given "Killing/Cliff/Noodle", the group that gave us that decided for the main character to be a panda, tying in with the Chinese/noodle theme i guess.

For the reason i had a fun time drawing the panda i decided that maybe i'd do a panda for my cyclist animation, 4 legs will be strange to animate as i've never done it before, also after watching a few videos of panda's walking there walk seems to be delayed on each leg so it'll be tough to match.

A quick 5 minute job on photoshop.

Finally getting round to doing this.

1 and half weeks overdue the blog is up, i'll be keeping a collection of my research and work here aswell as eventually posting my final along with tests.
